The first book has some of my favorite parts, as I love stories about how heroes came to be.  Callindra grows here from a girl to a young woman, learns the use of the Sword and to tame magic that is wild and powerful enough that it could destroy her where she stands.  It’s a wild ride of swashbuckling adventure with a bit of intrigue and depth.  Also of note, there is NO, I repeat NO romance in this book.
